A Message from cindy

The first question should be "Is it good for kids?"...

It’s hard to believe it’s been eight years since you first sent me to the Board of Education table as your Trustee for the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD). Eight years, two terms, and now I’m asking for your support for a third — because I still love this work as much as the day I started.

We’ve been through a lot together since 2018. Through the Borderline tragedy and Hill and Woolsey fires, through a global pandemic and beyond, I kept coming back to the same question I ask about everything that crossed my decision-making path: is it good for kids? Then I ask if it’s good for our teachers, our staff, and our community. That guiding question has never steered me wrong… [Read Cindy’s full letter]

But the work goes well beyond crisis response. I’ve spent these eight years as I have throughout my time in the Conejo Valley – building relationships with families, educators, staff, and the agencies that serve our kids – – because I believe our schools should be a source of pride for everyone in this community.

A few highlights from my time as your Trustee:

  • Prioritized student outcomes by monitoring district goals and adding targeted metrics
  • Invested in mental health resources and Wellness Rooms across our campuses
  • Grew our Career Technical Education offerings and expanded Dual Enrollment
  • Developed new channels of communication to increase access and amplify parent voices
  • Created the Student Advisory Council and established the Student Trustee position
  • Developed a Visual and Performing Arts Strategic Plan
  • Created and expanded the district’s first Dual Language Immersion program
  • Implemented a full TK–12 International Baccalaureate Program — the first in Ventura County

I’m as excited about CVUSD’s future today as I was eight years ago. Thank you for trusting me with this work, for your honesty when I’ve gotten things wrong, and for walking this road with me. I’d be honored to keep going, together.
